Helping Hands Coalition
Helping Hands is a community outreach program that serves the homeless
and others with unmet needs. This outreach service in Florence started
in 2011 because of concerns for the homeless who have no shelter on
cold and rainy days. Presently lunch is provided three times a week and
vouchers are given out for such needs as propane, laundry and
showers. Some food, clothes and toiletries are also available. Also
important is the fact that those who visit Helping Hands have someone to
talk to whether they are on the road or living in the community. This
all takes place in a small building with unpaid staff and volunteers.
They coordinate their offerings with Siuslaw Outreach Services and look
to the future as they recognize needs yet to be filled. St. Andrew’s
contributes funding for operational costs.
